I saw one ages ago where he massacred an old Win95 system like that, and yes, it immediately reminded me of it.
>Bonzi Buddy
Oh god…
I really hope they took your advice on that.
Have you seen the guy on youtube that destroys computers (vms) by filling them with malware? I don’t remember his name but that’s probably the closest I’ve been to seeing a computer in that state.
One of the most horrifying computer experiences I ever had was while writing out an incident report at the local Sheriff’s Department; one of the deputies pulled up a document from the county database on an XP terminal and there were so many obvious malware popups that it took nearly a minute to close them all, and Bonzi Buddy was offering Helpful Advice™ the entire time. Apparently one of the supervisors had been instructing deputies to just click [OK] any time it came up to clear whatever dialogue box off the screen; the Microsoft Security Center icon was red in the notification area on the toolbar, I don’t know if they even had a firewall turned on. I sent a message to the Sheriff advising him that hiring a sysadmin was probably cheaper than a lawsuit for putting personal info and crime data in the hands of scammers.
Heh. I could guess what the
somethingwas.Knowing how some places can be those ‘win3’ computers probably stayed like that for a long time. Or they called support who wiped the hard drives in case it was malware.
One of my friends is a “can literally do tech support in his sleep” level of IT maestro, and ages ago he built a joke machine by clearing out a huge obsolete PC case– with a sticker from a local refurbished discount computer outlet still on the front listing all the woefully inadequate specs– and replacing the innards with the absolute top of the line hardware at the time. Several people in his office thought he was some kind of god for being able make a heap like that perform better than their workstations. In the other direction, back when XP was still the newest Windows version, on his way out the door of a place he hated working he did
somethingto the interface on all the brand new terminals in his department that made it look like they’d been shipped with Win3.0 installed.Or just use the cases for PCs. It would be a great use for them.
@Ichijoe
Not enough tech types reuse the cases of dead consoles to replace the guts with a different working platform. It would trip people out to see someone load up a PS4 game in an XBone, or plug an N64 cartridge into the back of a PS3.
Seeing as how I lost Two Consoles to RRoD. I have a very special fondness for the Failbox 360, the trash tip.
Aw boo hoo
rip old consoles.
@Omegastyle
Same. Mine’s already outlived my desktop and the laptop that followed.
seriously?, we are talking about the technique and quality here not the console :/
