Makes perfect sense.
Rarity “knows” Applejack since foalhood, but they never developed a friendship as fillies.
Now as both adults they could have a romantic relationship thanks to that “lack of contact” in their developmental years. While Twilight never met Applejack as a filly, she currently is her closest friend (but also, her liege).
Coloratura and AJ became “very best friends” back when both were fillies (so nothing “extra” will ever happen for the same reasons it COULD with Rarity).
[Apples aside], the special talent of coloratura is using HARMONY (with her voice) to create beauty that reaches the hearts of ponies. The special talent of Rarity is to use her vision to create objects that matches the best on them on the exterior. Twilight special talent is to re-made the minds of a pony into a better versions of themselves on the inside.
