Open to the possibility that I may be wrong, but the pun seems like a neat hat-tip to me.
I wasn’t when I made my comment, I have since been informed of the matter and thus rescind my previous statement.
Given that the whole comic is openly playing with and repeatedly inverting themes of truth, honesty, evidence, scepticism, troo beliefs, mass delusions and their consequences, denials, and hoaxes.
With some pretty good sight and dialogue gags and shipping fuel too.
