3 years later, I stand corrected. For some reason, I really thought it was from 1926… Until I actually bought the movie on BluRay.

Thanks for the heads-up! I don’t think the European feel of the film will bother me, as I’m an Euro myself and know how the peculiarities we have when talking about cinema. That said, I’ve never watched a film by Werner Herzog, nor a film with Kinsky as the star (in the German Edgar Wallace adaptations and “For A Few Dollars More” he’s more of a hideous as heck BG character… Even when playing good guys!).
The 1979 version is pretty good. Though I’d comment that it can be pretty European as fuck. A lot of long shots at distant things. The Kalus Kinski version of Orlok is also pretty close to the original 20’s version; due in part because the dude already looks like a ghoul.
