Headcannon: there is a prophecy where the element of honesty would rule Equestria if the Princess of the sun and moon were to somehow no longer rule Equestria. AJ took it to heart and on the day Celestia and Luna disappeared she took the throne and told everypony accept her friends and family to call her Marefasa. she then had ponies construct her castle to look like Pride Rock.
