Of course it will end after six seasons; the show will have six seasons and a (non-spinoff) movie. What other amount could it have? Seven seasons and a movie? Eight seasons and a movie? Ridiculous…

Thing is, the show itself is only one part of the multimedia franchise, and new episodes aren’t strictly speaking necessary for most of the other media; toy and video game and comic sales will go on for quite some time after new episode production ends, and DVD/BluRay/iTunes/et cetera sales are functionally open-ended in perpetuity. G4 will probably stick around until 2020 at least, but there are no guarantees whatsoever that the show will still be there.
 
When all the staff Twitters start talking about the new projects they’re moving on to, we’ll know that whatever season we’re on is the last.

To those wondering how long the ponies will run for, i present the following anecdote!
 
At one time, a reporter asked a network executive at Paramount how long they planed to keep making Star Trek series and movies. The executive replied “We will keep making Star Trek until it stops making money, untill then, there will always be a next season.” Of course Enterprise only made it four seasons befor ending, because the ratings droped and the merch didnt sell, so they didnt pick it up for a new show / season.
 
The same will happen with ponies, as long as MLP makes money for Hasbro they will keep making it in one form or another. So we may yet find a vehicle for sea ponies to make it to the screen!

I want them to be canon to actually.

I kinda liked the art in the book, but I’d kinda prefer if they made most seaponies look more like the G1 ones, or like the famed “Seapony Lyra.”

Seriously, we need some bonniedamned shoo-be-doo action up in here.
 
Several of the writers have said that they’ve pitched Sea Pony episodes right from the beginning, but Hasbro always shoots them down for unknown reasons. Looks like we’ll have to make do with the Sea Pony appearances in the comic and picture book continuities.

Season 6 is the latest confirmed, and no doubt they’ll have a seventh to see how many new fans they can make from it. So, I’d say we have at least two more. Beyond that? If the movie completely tanks and the fans drop off? All bets are off.

Rainbow Dash didn’t believe in flying ponies in g3. She became a pegasus in g4. If there’s going to be a g5, she probably will be turned into a seapony and be renamed “Rainbow Splash”.

They were in the Under the Sparkling Sea book as others have mentioned, and hasbro requested some modifications to the pirate comic arc to get it in line with that book’s background.
 
That said, I’d have no problem with them (or “mermares”) appearing in the show.  

They’re already canon.

They have tried literally every single season since S2 to fit them in. It just never has worked, but they keep trying. I think Larson said this.

How to animate underwater physics is a whole different matter.
 
Putting subtitles on the spoken lines, depending on the language, while the characters are underwater… well sound waves travel slower in liquid.

Well i’m just assuming that. Six seasons is long enough for a show. And the movie seems like a good send-off.
 
Of course, i could end up being completely wrong, but that’s what i think.

It’s common for a series to do 6 seasons. However, Friendship Is Magic has had a massive reaction from the public, a huge fan base, and has probably netted the company millions in merchandise sales.  
Those facts considered, I doubt we’ve seen the last of the series yet.

Yeah, it’s pretty bad it never happened. I alwasy love seeing mythos in the show.

I guess that’s up to Hasbro to decide.
