Oh my gooood!
Bananaaaaaaaaaa!
While I’m still holding to what I said earlier, I can agree that it would’ve been more interesting if she were a tougher villain to crack, more realistically. I mean, she cried a big puddle and was pretty darn distraught, but they could’ve shown it better by making her fight more, show some more of her internal conflict hinting at her turning good again later, etc.
But hey, it was the first EQG. I don’t know if the writers’ hearts were really in it. I think by the second one they realized that they were stuck with this, so they’d might as well make it good, and put a lot more heart into it at that point. The first one wasn’t terrible, but was pretty meh - second and third ones were good, though. Just IMO.
She is. But still, her surrender to the mane characters in the first film looked kinda… meh to me. Villain shouldn’t give up so easily. If writers wanted to make her a goodie anyway, they at least could’ve done it with more respect to her character!
A proper villain? Meh. I’m not complaining about Sunset. She’s a good character.
Nevertheless, that’s how the proper villain should operate. When you’re defeated you either retreat to fight another day or, if it is impossible, at least try to inflict as much damage to the winning hero as possible before perishing:
“I will not yield,
To kiss the ground before Young Malcolm’s feet,
And to be baited with the rabble’s curse.
Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane,
And thou opposed, being of no woman born,
Yet I will try the last. Before my body
I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff;
And damned be him that first cries: ‘Hold, enough!’”
— Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 8.
That’s how should proper villain meet his/her end! Surrendering is just… disgraceful!
Are you serious? That’s a really foolish sentiment. That’s how dogma, blindness, medieval type oppressive systems and fanatacism happen.
No matter how much you try to make pi equal something other than ~3.14159…, or change the local speed of light in a vacuum - it ain’t happenin’, and you’re best off submitting to the truth that is undefeatable, and learn to love truth more than your own arrogant pride. That’s how the renassaince happens and science progresses, and we end up in a technological society.
One should fight to the end for his/her cause, whatever the cost may be. Surrendering and, even worse, admitting you were wrong all along is the ultimate defeat, therefore unacceptable.
The strength of character to overcome one’s own pride and change like this is true power, majesty and nobility that you will never know unless you experience it~
There’s something at the end of this comic.
whack
IT WAS PAIN
Also, YES! I was hoping someone would do this reference.
Forgot to check the grammar of the meme…
Okay, I can have a pretty bad sense of humor sometimes Xp
In all honesty, though, this is… A pretty fantastic comic. The feeling of being tremendously, overwhelmingly remorseful and upset at your past self, towards someone you highly love and respect - it’s a feeling that strikes close to home, a little.
