Cloud is…a stupid choice.
 
No really, the only reason he’s in there is because 1) he’s from the most popular game, and 2) said most popular game is going to be remade, and they need something to drum up the hype machine more.
 
Other than that, he’s a pretty poor choice in terms of variety. We already have a bunch of sword-fighters, we don’t need more. And they could’ve even incorporated the Material system into his character, but apparently, he’ll just be using his Limit Breaks, which don’t look inventive in the slightest.
 
This might sound biased (if you don’t know why, check the avatar), but if I was the rep in charge of this decision, I would have gone with Black Mage. Honestly, they’d be a much better fit for the role because 1) they’ve actually been in not just one main-series game on a Nintendo console but multiple, 2) their Black Magic would make for a more intersting and varied moveset compared to the onslaught of swordsmen, and 3) they’re honestly more iconic to the series itself than Cloud is, aside from Moogles and Chocobos, of course.
 
I’ll admit, when I saw the trailer, I was giggling the whole time because of all the little touches (and the giant monster summons…and the original music…okay, maybe not so little), but afterwards, I looked back and thought, “Wait, aren’t they remaking FF7,” and soon realized this was essentially a marketing ploy on Squeenix’s part.
 
You know what I would like? I’d at least like just one other character to represent either Square’s more inventive titles like Vagrant Story, the SaGa games, or the Mana games (good choices would be Reiz, any one of the protagonists from RSG3 or SaGa Frontier, Ashley Riot, etc.) or even Enix’s titles, which really need more love from Squeenix (good choices here would be a DQ protagonist, can’t name specific names, Arc from Terranigma, Lemeer from Mystic Ark, etc.).
 
You know what’s gonna happen? It’ll just be Cloud, and games everywhere will wet their pants in glee while I sit in the back with a select few others and shake their heads in disappointment.

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game, so I have no feelings toward Cloud in Smash.
 
He’s just going to be another character I’ll learn to play and like.

It looks more like link’s final smash to me.

The most experience with FFVII I’ve had is the abridged series. With that said, I’m kind of upset several of his moves look like all the other sword characters’( Another Ike final smash ).
