thats different, plus you never have enough armor
For all the natural defenses in animals, had they sapience, they’d find it necessary to wear extra equipment to protect against weaponry designed to completely bypass said natural defenses, as well as synthetic ones.
Besides, thick skin on reptiles didn’t exactly work that great for the dinosaurs’ weakness to toxic gas and starvation. XD

Sentient bug people are probably aware a naturally made armoured skeleton won’t stop steel piercing bullets. Anthropomorphic cheetahs probably know they can’t outrun a gatling, and may feel it necessary to wear a vest. :3
heres a logical answer. its an exoskeleton, but when going to battle they wear armor over it to protect themselves
Not really, Changeling officers not only have the extra helmet but wear a different set of armor that provides better protection and in the comics one officer wears a green variant of the armor and helmet. Armor is by far the more likely answer than it being a natural shell of some sort, especially since this type of armor is not unheard of, the Royal Guard wear a similar type of armor.
I will go with the obvious answer that it is armor over the less likely headcanon.
