Exactly. All those unique special abilities for specific situations were gone, which was the whole reason you wanted to play through it time and again as you’d need to build very carefully in every skill direction. Yes it took longer and required more planning, but the payoff would completely reshape how you could play the game.
But, it’s catering to the people who “want to play the game with only one character and not miss out on anything.”
To quote Syndrome from The Incredibles: “Once everybody is special, no one will be.”
And it not only removed a LOT of specialization but also gameplay perks. Remember when you had unlockable abilities like slitting the throats of sleeping NPC’s or natural night vision or a devastating unarmed VATS attack or the ability to repair weapons and armor with anything in that item’s class?
Yup, it just made so many things useless without specific skill trees, meaning you ended up maxing out a stat to get a perk that really meant nothing by that point.
Yeah when I heard about what happened to the skill system and how perks worked, my desire just fell off a cliff.
Because the game actually came out and it was as bad as I tried to warn folks of.
For fuck’s sake, dude.
you need to kill your son or nuke the commonwealth. 10/10 writing game of the year 300+ endings.
