Description

In which I colored one of Earl Annex’ drawings. There’s also a bit of backstory to this image.
—–
Once upon a time, the land was but filled with Alicorns, creatures wise and beautiful in all aspects. They were ruled by a wise and just king, and the king had two beautiful daughters.

One day, the eldest of the daughters went for a journey to the faraway lands. She saw many things beautiful and fair, and oh she loved it all.
But when she returned, she made a horrible discovery; whilst she had been gone, the land had fallen to a terrible but mysterious plague. Nearly all of the kingdom had perished; only the younger sister of the young princess remained alive still. She had held onto the hope that the elder princess had been spared by the plague, and had wished to see her one more time before death.

Lo, her wish came to be. The younger princess only told her sister a few words. “I knew you had avoided the curse. Do not mourn me, dear sister; I love you.” With those words, the younger sister laid her head to sleep, and never woke.

The eldest Princess found herself the only surviving Alicorn. And despite the assuring words of her sister, she grieved. She grieved over her lost kingdom, and she grieved over her race. And she swore to find out from where had the plague come.

And thus, the grieving princess set out on another journey, a journey of sorrow. She went to an old, wise dragon, and she inquired if he knew anything about the plague.
“Your mind is set on revenge, young pony,” said the dragon to her. “Do not seek it. Let it go. It shall only bring you more sorrow in the end.”

But the princess did not listen. She demanded the source of the magical plague, and with a sigh, the dragon gave it to her.
The death had come from a Draconequus, one that had planned to wipe out the Alicorn race and establish himself as the eternal ruler of the land. This information enraged the princess. Despite his protests, she left the wise dragon and sought the Draconequus. And in her wrath, she drove her horn through his skull.

Only then did she realize what she had done in her thirst of revenge. Her lands were barren, her family was gone, and once the revenge was carried out, she lost her purpose. And thus she sat, looking at the corpse of the enemy she didn’t know she had had, and she thought. And she came to a decision.

The mare went to a Minotaur armorer, and asked him to fashion her an armor shaped like the Draconequus she had destroyed in her wrath. And when she put it on, she got a most foolish idea. She ditched the helmet that came with the armor, and hurried back to the corpse. There, she cleaned out its skull and placed it upon her head. And suddenly, everything went wrong.

The princess had the chaos of the creature running through her mind, and she could not handle it. Her already battered psyche shattered under the pressure. She declared herself Chaos Star, and she has patrolled the land ever since. Always looking for the sister she forgot she lost, and never finding her.

You can still see her sometimes, when the sun is at its peak, and a Star Beast lumbers by. She is always there, waiting for the beast to direct her to her lost sister. But they never do. Even they have forgotten, and they dare not tell her.
