There’s signs in the movie that suggest Cadance has been dean for a while (Luna mentions only seeing her during the Friendship Games). Cinch said the Friendship Games only happen once every four years. Cadance calls Shining Armor an Alumni. They also say he competed in the last Friendship Games. All this suggests Cadance was the dean while Shining Armor was a student.  
That means that if they ARE together, Cadance is quite a bit older than Shining Armor. And he’s a former student of hers. A bit weird, but not impossible, of course.

What if the father is Shining Armor. If he and Cadance are married in Equestria, maybe they are there and maybe they’re already expecting a child?
