Feature suggestions and discussion [READ THE FIRST POST]
Background Pony #8CFF
Can a chat PM feature be implemented in the site’s IRC or no? How about more site themes? Examples: Futaba, Yostuba, 2channel, Zecora, Flurry Heart, Mane 6, Celestia, Luna, Burichan, Geoties, and Photon themes.

irc does have a pm feature. if a user is online type /msg [username] [message] to send it privately to them, and a lot of clients allow you to click their user name and open a private window.
if they’re not online, and a registered user, you can use memoserv to send a memo to them. type /memoserv send [username] [message]. that is, registered through nickserv, not the site.
this is as good a time as any to point out that irc is entirely independent of derpibooru. we can’t add features to it the way we can add them to the site.

With the downvote > hide change, the function that prevents downvotes on spoilered thumbnails no longer makes sense. The use case is now:
- Image appears spoilered in watchlist (or whatever)
- Peek under the thumbnail, determine it’s something you don’t personally want to see
- Click hide
Since downvotes no long affect anybody else, there’s no reason to have that barrier to the hide function.

Updated the sort to use a significantly higher z-score, so that it doesn’t just appear to be the same as sort by downvotes ascending

Not sure how easy it would be, but what about a form (similar to dupe reports) to submit a direct link to the “superior/higher resolution version” of an image within the source link? It would help to reduce the number of re-uploads for older images being re-posted multiple times.
I’m not referring to fixes or corrections made for an image on a different link or same thread, though it could still apply to this as well.
One recent example I found is this one, where all the images from the source have higher resolutions than the ones that were uploaded. On a related note, only site worse about full res images than tumblr would probably be Pixiv. tumblr was just able to keep this relatively under the radar for a long while, whereas Pixiv full-res images are just neglected.
Arguably, this could lead to even worse upload races; where no matter what the initial uploader posts, they were “first”, so they don’t care which ends up on site. ‘Someone else can just pick up the slack.’ Of course one way to mitigate that is to have the uploader credit changes when the new version gets submitted and accepted.
Not a perfect system, I know.

When someone uploads a higher-res version of an image, we already merge into that. [So people who race for “first” wouldn’t keep the uploader credit anyways.] The only exception so far has been _raw versions of Tumblr images more than a month old or so.
Since those could have been on the site already for years in some instances. [And some artists may not appreciate old artwork being bumped up to the front again.]

…is there an ELI5 version of that, or is it too complicated to sum up like that

There is an exception? Huh. Didn’t know that. That’s cool.
I thought about checking and replacing some of the uploads I did before I knew about _raw a few times already, mostly some of the stitched together comics, but haven’t done it yet because I didn’t want to mess up their order in the gallery.
So if I, say, uploaded a bigger version of 2 year old >>942345 (there doesn’t seem to be one, but I’m too lazy to search for an actual example here), the bigger version would get merged into the smaller one and we’d end up with the bigger picture at the old ID?
And what about upload date and uploader, would they stay or get updated? (Uploader obviously not in this example, since I’d replace my own upload, but what if it was someone else?)

So far, since it’s merging into old, the upload date and original uploader stay as they were on the old version. All we’ve been doing is replacing the image itself.
Edit: Looking at the image you linked, I do believe you have the highest resolution available already.
As for other exceptions: Only other kind I can think of off the top of my head is when the artist themselves uploads a duplicate version of an image. Depending on circumstances, we usually transfer their name to the other upload, or merge into their upload.

Yeah, I was aware of the current merge system. I just wasn’t sure if a better one could go in its place.
Since I can’t word my next thought coherently, somethingsomething multiple uploads for upvote farming/first page bumping.

Apparently, the missing wildcard caused the results to appear empty.
On a site-related note, why is the edit button still there if I can’t edit it? And when I did try to submit the edit, the message returned was

Whoops, couldn’t edit your post! Make sure you’ve actually written something and the thread isn’t locked/deleted.

I’m still waiting for an Official Policy™ on whether Capper et al. should have the anthro tag (or semi-anthro, I guess, even though I personally think that one is dumb). If so, it would need to also get retro-tagged on all the G1 characters (Catrina, etc.) who would indubitably be called anthro if they were seen elsewhere out of MLP context; if not, a note should probably be made on their individual character tag pages to the effect of “we’re not officially calling this character ‘anthro’, so please don’t tag it as such”.

If you delete an image, the comments should be deleted along with it.

There really wouldn’t be a need for that, as no one would be able to see the comments. And if the image is restored for whatever reason, having the comments still there is a good thing.

Sorry if someone else already suggested it, but I’d like to suggest a “sort by upvote count” feature that doesn’t take downvotes into account, on top of the already present ability to “sort by score”.
I think it would ‘fix’ the issue with the score system being inaccurate for obscure fetishes and ‘topics people don’t like’, which was one of the reasons stated in the post on why the downvote was removed a few days ago.

Something I just noticed:
In the message center, the user names in the “With” column aren’t linked to the users’ profile pages.
Would be a nice feature to have, so you could save a click and don’t have to open a message just to click on the user name.
