He addresses a lot of the common talking points from both progressives and liberal centrists for why Donald Trump won in 2024, and does a deep dive into the voter data from the seven swing states - which Trump swept. Ends up debunking a lot of the most popular explanations based on the data.

From his reading of the results in those seven swing states, he has come to the conclusion that American racism and misogyny really were at the heart of Trump’s win. And it makes sense given how the past couple of years have seen the Me Too backlash in full swing, and Donald ran heavily on male grievance politics (as Tucker Carlson said, “Daddy is home, and he is pissed”).

Would it have been better if Biden won the nomination and the election in 2008? I don’t see Republicans losing their minds over Biden becoming president like they did with Obama.

Biden was extremely unlikely to win the nomination. The only realistic alternative options were Hillary, who Republicans would also go crazy over and Edwards with a bombshell so bad his own staffers considered sabotaging his campaign.

I’ve seen folks say that Harris was the best would could’ve gotten this election.

They predict that Biden staying would’ve caused Dems to suffer a major loss which would give GOP Super Majorities in House and Senate instead of simple majorities.

Not sure if I agree with this entirely.

Harris was the best we could get after Brandon royally screwed the pooch by lying about being a 1 term president.

By the time he finally depleted the entire national reserve of adrenochrome to keep his decrepit ass even just semi-alive it was too late. The DNC had already all-but cancelled primaries leaving no alternative ingrained in the public zeitgeist, and Harris was only given like 100 days to rehabilitate her image after no Democrat voted for her in 2020 and overcome the “deficiency” of being both black and a woman to the Republicans.

Trump won for plenty of reasons, but they all kinda fall under the same umbrella excuse of “Joe Biden was a mistake”.

I think Jon Ossoff could have beaten Trump in a landslide.

I wonder if it would have matter if he was actually going to say that he was not going to run for a second term. I wonder if Harris would have won against Trump.

He never said the exact words but he was very clearly gesturing at it during his 2020 bid.

Then he changed his mind before ultimately making good on the promise way too late.

So in the end, hatred won.

I’m beginning to think so…

I do think that Harris was a good candidate, but I also don’t think there is any way to really say what would have happened had Biden stayed in the race instead of endorsing her to run instead. As the months leading up to November clearly demonstrated, it’s hard enough to get an idea of who people are going to choose even among the definitive choices being offered. Trying to figure what would have happened among speculative options after the fact is probably impossible.

Also, lest we forget, there has been a global trend this year of people voting against whomever happens to be in power due to anger over inflation and other economic issues, regardless of whether those in charge were responsible or had any ability to really change that. And when you look at the fact that the switch to Republicans at the Federal level is not really reflected at the state and local level, where Democrats actually didn’t do that badly, it kind of seems like there may be a lot of other stuff at play here than just whether the candidate was Biden or Harris.

But, full disclosure, I also tend to think that what hurt the Democrats most this time was the support issue. I may end up being in the minority on this, but I happen to think Biden was an excellent president. He passed a number of good things for the people of this country (despite having to contend with one of the thinnest majorities ever and an opposition party of borderline lunatics) and also managed to not only completely avoid the recession many so called financial experts were certain was coming but instead build up the US economy to the point where it was basically propping up the rest of the world. And his reward for doing all that was not only to be constantly criticized for not doing more, but also to be stabbed in the back by basically everyone because he was a touch under the weather one time during a debate most people in this country probably didn’t even see. And whether or not his debate performance affected voters in any way, the fact that his own party was freaking out over his age and expressing a lack of confidence in him undoubtedly did. I mean, Trump, the shambling brain dead wannabe autocrat and adjudicated rapist, got convicted of multiple felonies in between possibly pooping himself in public, and his followers doubled down and portrayed him as a golden skinned demigod with the body of 1980s Arnold Schwarzenegger. And now he’s getting a second term. Kind of hard not to think that maybe showing a bit of faith in the guy would have helped a tad.

I hear the “one bad day” narrative a number of times, but it’s not really true. People forget that before the debate there were multiple videos of Biden that pointed to mental decline. Democrats were trying to deny it, but the debate made it a lot harder to. He didn’t have one bad day, he had many bad days.

I saw someone “joke” the other day that all Hitler would need to do should he rise from the dead in modern day is promise cheaper eggs and enough of the idiots in humanity would follow him blindly.

Are you referring to the videos that were specifically edited to make it look that way? Because there were plenty of those running around. As well of videos taking full advantage of his well documented speech impediment and tendency to gaffe when talking to achieve the same effect.

But the only videos I’ve seen where it was obvious the person in it was actually mentally declining were the ones with Trump.

No he’s talking about every instance of him being in front of a camera.

If we don’t count those times then yeah one could make the mistake of thinking he’s not over 80.

Well, yeah. It’s pretty obvious to anyone who has a fuckin’ brain that Trump’s mental health is at an all time low. You don’t look at someone screaming about minorities “eating dogs” on live TV and think “oh, that seems perfectly normal to me.”

Unfortunately for us, it seems like more than half the U.S. population are missing their brains.
