Because people exposed that Doug saw them as high art and was very overly proud of himself for them, it’s like how people feel fine ripping birdemic apart because the director is a dick and is full of himself when it comes to his movies,

I remember Misanthropony really laid it on Nostalgia Critic hard. I guess I used to feel like he was a sort of hero of justice against the evil Nostalgia Critic.

Granted NCs video on Sailor Moon was eyerolling as hell.

But I feel like Misanthropony just went way overboard beyond what was necessary.

And it turned out the latters sense of his or the highway (he’d probably say he was just acting just) just made him seem worse than the person he was complaining about.

No matter how good your fanfic is, it will never be a replacement for the original.

No matter how good a fanfic with Ash having a Nidoran instead be, it’ll never take the place of the original, even if hypothetically it could be better.

I’ve been guilty of this with reading FIM fanfics and only watching of FIM said to myself, “Gee why couldn’t Faust have made characters this good?” Without even knowing what FIM was about or that she made the universe those fanfics were in in the first place.

As someone who wants to write my own alternate version of FIM, I want to make sure I dont have the nerve to suggest the other FIM is outdated.

Even if the author writes badly I think its important to awknowledge your story is a derivative.

And at the same time, a fanfic might not please everyone. Some might prefer a ship. Or someone not to die. But in the end its not your fanfic. Its theres.

You can write fanfic of that fanfic if you prefer but dont think your it will replace the original.

A lot of fans like to trash the official stuff with fanmade stuff, always forgetting the fan stuff wouldn’t exist or get as much attention if it weren’t for the official stuff. You’re biting the hand that feeds you.

Which is why I wish for fanfiction to be adaptable for television and film as an AU series, and I don’t mean something like 50 Shades (since it’s not part of the Twilight franchise despite being reworked from a fanfic of said franchise).

But that’s impossible and nobody cares, but a person can dream can it?

Hell, if books and comics can be adapted into shows or films, I wish the same can be for fanfiction and fanart and fancomics, at least adapt them into fanfilms and such or podfics with voice actor soundalikes if they can’t have original VAs reading fanfics or Animators making fanimations of anything.

A constant I’ve seen in fanfiction is that they often overtly rely on common perceptions rather than actual understanding of the material.
They often see holes as something to cover their own expectation, not as a chance to build upon something more.

Writing a story is not really easy. Whatever blunder canon writers do shouldn’t be an excuse to automatically assume you can do better.

The reason why I often dislike memes is because they use the same songs and dances over and over, and when making fanfiction that gets stale eventually.

That’s exactly why it’s not unpopular. People are slowly getting tired. I still quite enjoy them myself. I think the only game that sucked was Hello Neighbor. Everything else has its unique charm, even Garten of Banban.

Every time I don’t see the “Don’t Blame Me…” politics thread in the Forum Activity list, I breathe a sigh of relief. It’s way too easy to peek in and get weighed down by all the doomsaying and dourness. I’ve said something like this before eslewhere on the site, but now I’ve said it again. We already get it blasted in our faces naturally by other forms of news media. I believe people can get by in life without hearing news about orange pig-toad hybrids and doughy bored neckbearded billionaires, but it’s hard sometimes.

It was never about important talks, just an alt venting thread except its all about zealotry.

On the contrary, there are a lot of users on there who are not of “alt” crowd. People who lean more toward the left poitically, like me.

But no matter what, it all just seems like hissing, rehashing of questionable news articles, defeated sighing and general doomery. Not the kind of fresh breather from the real world that I prefer to look for on sites like this

I mean lets face it. Most of us are pretty illiterate in politics so we dont have much to say except what on the headlines.

Plus, the idea of political discourse in general is more about finger pointing and blaming the other side instead of actually doing something to fix things, which is why I rarely don’t talk about politics. In addition, I can just put my time and mind on things that I like and enjoy more.
