On April 15, sixteen teams entered the first round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs by virtue of having the best records in the NHL. From April 22 to April 27, the eight teams that would compete in the second round of the playoffs were determined. Two teams won Game 7 at home during the first round.

On April 30, the eight teams who won their first round series began playing each other in the second round. The results of the four second round series were as follows:

On May 7, the Chicago Blackhawks completed their 4-0 sweep of the Minnesota Wild by defeating them 4-3 in regulation. The Wild were swept in the playoffs for just the first time in their history.
On May 10, the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames 3-2 in overtime to win their series against the Calgary Flames, 4-1.
On May 12, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 in regulation time to win their series with the Montreal Canadiens, 4-2.
On May 13, the New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 with 8:36 remaining in overtime to win their series against the Washington Capitals, 4-3. The Rangers became the first team in NHL history to come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win a playoff series in two consecutive seasons.

The two pairings in the NHL Conference Finals are therefore as follows:
(1) Anaheim Ducks (Lyra) vs. (5) Chicago Blackhawks (Octavia) in the Western Conference Final
(1) New York Rangers (Rainbow Dash) vs. (3) Tampa Bay Lightning (Lightning Dust) in the Eastern Conference Final

The two teams who win four games in the Conference Finals advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, where the winning team’s pony will become an alicorn.
