They are both the head honcho of their respective universes, and are from Hasbro’s two most widely known product lines.
 
Its actually a fairly obvious crossover ship when you think about it.

Well, the whole Megatron/Pinkie Pie thing started from a commercial that aired last summer of them singing together. They even got Frank Welker to do it.  
This Optimus / Celestia thing?

Salt Miner.
Initially, it was one user trying to force it into a meme. (Probably to piss everyone off and make them hate transformers in the process.)
 
But I do remember one picture that actually made it seem surprisingly plausible.
 
Something about Optimus being a long-lived veteran of a war that’s been raging for millions of years and how Celestia’s an immortal monarch with tons of emotional baggage.
