People STILL complain about that…  
And yeah, if the show stays the same, fans complain there’s no “character-development,” or anything, but if anything minor is changed like if Twilight gets another set of wings on her butt, or if the CMC got their cutie-marks, or if something “toy-etic” shows up briefly in an episode, people would freak out probably.
 
I like how that notorious “Kwark” fellow kept complaining about the “Rainbow Power” forms, and fear-mongering/telling people that they were going to be permanent brand new looks for the characters.  
Said forms only appeared in the entire 4th seasons for 2 minutes, and after that they reverted back to their normal forms… Guess people forgot their “crystalized” forms were only temporary to.

Oh, I see. My first remark was more-so refering to the “status quo’” aspect of the show, but as I said you never know.

I kinda disagree, there has been some subtle-character development throughout the past 4 seasons if you know where to look. Notice that Fluttershy seems to be a bit more assertive after “Putting Your Hoof Down?” Not to mention Sweetie Belle can use magic now like most unicorns after Twilight taught her magic. Scootaloo’s inability to fly has finally been touched upon, as well, and it seems her flight ability improved a bit in some episodes afterwords. (Like in “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils.”) Not to mention I noticed all 3 Crusaders seemed a li’l less focused on being obsessive over getting cutie-marks this season. Even being called “blank-flanks” now barely phases them.
 
Not to mention, the S4 finale touched on Discord’s heel-face turn, and Twilight touching on how her new princess status didn’t seem to change much throughout the past season. (And even before that in eps like “Equestria Games” & “Trade Ya” prior there were hints she was feeling this way.)

You know the rules, we can’t have our characters acutally have character development, we’ve gotta have more laughs outta people.
 
I could not type that with a straight face, it’s ridciulous.

Y’know, I’d like an episode where Flutters get over her fear of “Nightmare Night,” or dragons.  
(Though, doubtful, as most cartoons have an unwritten rule of having only one Halloween special per show, unless it’s a long-lasting sitcom like the Simpsons, or something.)
