That roughly parallels the conclusions I drew for the most part (I figured 35-ish or so). Can’t say they seem that unflattering to me, but no accounting for taste/lack thereof. Might be for fine-detail work like those 50’s-style red-framed specs on the show.
She’s described as “just on the edge of her prime”, so I think late 30s to early 40s might be closer. Also, a lot of that effect in the picture is due to the glasses, which make her look a decade older (why someone as fashion-conscious as Rarity would wear something this unflattering is beyond me, though).
Between SoME and his being hatched by Filly!Twiley, I figure Spike’s roughly 5 years behind the mane cast. Enough gap there to make a slight wait prudent, but closer than plenty of kneejerk Chris Hansen types assume.
The species issue probably isn’t a big thing, what with Spike being personal friend to all four princesses.
Yeah, as a Sparity shipper, the age/species gap is not lost on me. Hell, the difference in age has always been the bigger issue in my eyes, so ‘Like Fine Wine’ presents a very satisfactory way to bring Spike and Rarity together, outside the alternative of using magic to make Spike older.
Oh, I read this one too. I’d say some may be taking Rares’ self-image depression goggles in the narrative at face value-‘over the hill’ by fashion-industry standards doesn’t remotely translate to ‘worn down’ in a sane sense.
Mid-thirties, but she apparently spent the better part of her twenties chasing after guys and being broken hearted until she realizes, well…what she wanted was always there.
Wouldn’t that put her at roughly mid-thirties? Hardly as decrepit as some of the whippersnapping wags here imply. For that matter, said parties are also blowing dem specs outta all proportion-they make her look more Fashionable Librarian(TM) than anything.
Well the story is set like fifteen (?) years in the future, so yeah.
