As for not knowing what to do with him, well hes a goldmine of stories that practcally write themselves, maybe you could go for another arc with him, the possiblities are infinite. I put him in a special place that all not-in-use characters go. (Whispers) It’s called “off screen”.
He likes living at home. He gets paid to clean up around the palace.
Just do what other artists do when they don’t know what to do with him: have him incongruously move back to the dragon lands to ‘discover himself’.

Yeah but for how long? For him to live with her since she was a kid watch her grow up, get married, have a kid of her own and be around long enough for her kid to get his own cutie mark you’d think he would be old enough to at least get a place of his own at this point.
Well, no, Spike is a key member of the family. Like another son/brother to Twilight. He just gets into mischief now and again.
I really leave him out simply because he’s still such a pain for me to draw. I love Spike, but I’m like the MLP writers, I don’t really know what to do with him.
No need to get angry, every artist is entitled to their own opinion on what they draw. But, yeah, being ‘that guy who lives with us’ isn’t really an ideal way of living.
