The actual challenge of this trick is getting the audience to believe the gun actually fired a bullet. Some magicians put glass panes in front of them to further the illusion.

Well, most pull this off by already having the bullet in their mouth before-hand, and having the gun shoot blanks.
 
The shooter there looks might scruffy, though, so he might not actually be part of the show and thus shooting for realsies.
