‘Better’ how? By taking most of their cues from other artists’ hybrids? There’s no way for that not to get old after a while. You may mean well, but the advice is delivered in a rather condescending fashion. Dunno if you’re done here, but I certainly am.
@BrownieComicWriter
Eh, don’t sweat our bickering. Keep doing your thing.
As I said before, I’m not really imposing it. Bringing it up as an good example doesn’t mean “you’re wrong and here’s what you should do.” As I’ve said, it only bothers me the artist could have done it better.
@BrownieComicWriter
Yes, but I’m talking to the Anon, not you.
You know I’m still here, right?
Not a problem. VermiIIion might have a point about the wing coloration, but I’m just not seeing ‘Mary Sue’ at this point.
@VermiIIion
Pretty sure Changelings also cast the odd attack spell or two-Chrysalis had that little beam duel with Celestia, and the troopers produced those wacky green auras when dive-bombing Twiley and Co.
Fair point on Spike’s lack of wings, though (a) his ‘growth spurts’ were neither natural nor permanent and (b) adult dragons seem to have limited shapechanging-that big green guy Spike briefly pestered sprouted a thorny cluster of tail-spines before chasing him off.
As for Bramble herself being OP that depends on (a) the challenges her hypothetical storyline poses and (b) any abilities the creator actually grants her. At this point we don’t even know if those wings are fully functional, much less whether flame-loogies or even beyond-basic levitation are on the table.
Finally, half the fun of fan-hybrids like this stems from artists’ individual spin on pony/whatever-else mixing. Imposing some half-baked fandom consensus on that process (beyond the obvious RED & BLACK GOD-PRINCESS DO NOT STEAL distaste) strikes me as pointlessly stifling.
Yes, but this creature is very obviously not a Changeling. Changeling’s magic seems to only have the ability of levitation and masquerading, which quite a small area of magic.
This creature is obviously half unicorn with dragon wings. This creature most likely (depending on which canon the artist goes by, or their own) must have the ability of a unicorn and the ability of flight as a dragon (even though it doesn’t make sense for this mare to have wings, as Spike didn’t as an adult).
Having an overpowered character is hardly ever intended, but kirins (or draconies, if you like) should have either wings or horns, or none at all, and this rule is generally followed by most artists who make dragon-pony hybrids. The fact that the artist did something different doesn’t necessarily bother me, but the fact they could have done it /better/ does.
Er, or madam.
Thank you, sir.
Concrit is one thing; trying to lay down half-baked OC DESIGN LAWZEZ(R) is quite another.
Well, for one, I’d take your critism into thought and consider whether or not you’re right. I wouldn’t blatantly say you’re wrong. And there’s no such thing as “provoking” critism. I critize because I think you have something to gain from an alternate view rather than a praising one.
Because I’ve seen the character and I know that the talent is suppose to be “having a prickly outside and a loving inside” or something like that. And, only princesses have horns and wings, and they’re very powerful.
Well, it’s nice that you like the colors, but they don’t look good together. Especially the color in the wings, which should be a darker version of the coat rather than a red color because the color just seems rather awkward and has no reason to be there.
Let me give you a bit of advice: don’t take constructive critism like a personal insult. I’m trying to help you, not hurt you. Getting all offensive only makes it worse.
… I mistook you for a serial offender.
Look, how would you like it if I came up and, unprovoked, started criticising something you were very proud of? Hmm?
And this whole “Mary Sue” and “overpowered” thing. How do you know? DO YOU KNOW THE CHARACTER??
And as a matter of fact, I like the colours. They’re actually a muted variation on Spike’s colour scheme. If you don’t like it, look at something else.
Oh look! Another person from Deviantart who can’t take critism. Sorry that I don’t think a personality means talent. A talent is being good at something, like farming or fashion or magic, etc. It her talent was gardening, it would be acceptable.
And, sorry, the colors you chose don’t look good. There’s a reason why most people stick with purple and white rather than use green. And the reason why they usually don’t give their draconies horns AND wings is so they don’t look overpowered.
If you want to be constantly given praise, go to ponychan. It’s a hugbox and I’m sure you’ll be welcome there
Get. Out. And stop being such a plothole to me.
A prickly personality is not a talent. It’s the personality.
Following this artist’s logic, Twilight’s personality must be sparkles!
Give her an actual talent. And maybe make her look less of a mary-sue. It looks like a batpony alicorn rather than a dracony. The colors don’t look very good together either.
