In theory, I agree with you.
In practice, at least half of the reasons I see cited by people as to why they hate an episode strike me as so trivial or even flat-out wrong that it just frustrates me.
I understand that, but it would be nice if people actually explained why they hate an episode.
Every episode has its haters.

I wanted to have at least one episode without Twilight Sparkle because I didn’t want to be accused of being Pro-Twilight.
I’ve heard some people don’t like Boast Busters all that much, and I’ve seen a few cases where some actually despise Ponyville Confidential for whatever reason. I personally like both of them though.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions. 3 of the top 5 in this list would be in the bottom 5 of my list, but that just means we’re viewing these episodes through different experiences, worldviews, and ideas of what’s important in this show.

I wasn’t aware that “Ponyville Confidential” was that hated, and I was under the impression that “Boast Busters” was rated in the upper half of season 1 episodes. Am I that out of touch with the fandom?

That’s what I meant. Flight to the Finish should be the highest up on the list.
I like any episode with the pets, and on top of that, Spike is very underrated.
Actually, 1 means Most Favorite while 10 is the lowest on the list (I’m not the only person who does it in this order, either).
