Too late. Those robots from the planet Krikkit stole my Infinite Improbability Drive.
FUCK YOU TIREK!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!! FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU!
still means they had no other choice on the matter, aka, pressure.
it’s sexist, Okay?!
they GAVE it away, though, rather than let it be taken. tirek would have stolen it from them selfishly. twilight accepted it gratefully. i dunno, i don’t think it’s THAT far off the mark.
Honest answer: a lot of it started as a reaction to a few people over on Tumblr using ponies to say NEGATIVE out-of-characer mouthpiece bullshit.
There were a few pictures floating around with slogans like rarity saying “literally anything before bros,” fluttershy going “i hate all boys,” and a rainbow dash going “it’s not rape if she can’t tell anyone” (or similar). just really stupid pointless shit.
so a few people decided to start drawing positive drawings of ponies saying nice things, to cheer themselves and others up after some tumblr drama regarding the earlier ponies went down.
… then it spread and people started drawing negative ones again. then people started posting them to db and drama started. soooooo. yeah. it backfired a bit.
i’m saying this as someone who drew a few mouthpieces myself. that’s at least how i saw events go down and how i was interpreting them.
hope this helps!
Some people are genuinely better off having no power. It makes them and the rest of us happier. Power should only be for those that are responsible. It shouldn’t be a right, but a privilege, something earned.
I think it’s a combination of the sort of weird satisfication of them going “Oh yeah well my favorite character would agree with ME because I like her.” and with My Little Pony fans in general being a discussion itself about gendered stuff, they naturally think it’d make a good soap box to stand atop.
Basically then making it seem like they can shame people into considering their beliefs because “Oh man my favorite pony is saying that and I can hear her saying it maybe she has a point because that’s obviously her opinion.”
Or something. I’m no psychologist. I just pretend to be one after being a Middle School Relationship councilor.
I’ve noticed a lot of these artists tend to draw nothing but mouthpieces and social justice themed things. Did these guys and gals really just sit down, watch an episode or two of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, and just say “you know, fan art of this is a great way to spread my message”?
What I’m getting at, is why FIM characters to begin with? It’s not like these artists have no artistic ability and are just using stock vectors and screencaps with overlaid text. These are hand-drawn original works. Why not just draw original characters? What is it about FIM that just screams out loud ‘social change!!!’
If there’s any such artists from Tumblr around listening, I’d seriously love to know.
I know, right? Both of them have had their power taken away, and more than once. :I
Shut up, pony no one looks at!
Shut up, steroid filled bovine!
Key word is gave. They willingly gave it to her.
But, I’ll try.
