If I had to write Flash, but couldn’t change anything else, I would have pulled a Strajyncski on him. Maybe change up the ending so Sunset is appearing to smash the portal, and the first time Twilight refuses, so she really does make it look like she’s going to do it. But he wants to play the heroic knight so he leaps in the way of the sledge and gets his damn fool neck broke. Sunset is at first kinda shocked and horrified, but then she’s like “Hey I can use this to my advantage. NOW YOU SEE HOW SERIOUS I AM, SPARKLE!” so she gets the tiara and things continue normally. Sunset is ‘redeemed’ in the same way because it turns out nobody gave a shit about him anyway and they just kinda keep stepping around and ignoring the body because he was a useless shit anyway.  
bam, the waifus are saved, and order is restored to the universe.

See, that’s what I keep saying. We know that Equestria Girls itself was a Hasbro mandate (pretty sure Meghan outright said as much at a convention), but Flash could’ve easily been their own idea, much like the whole Princess Twilight thing was (I really wish I had a source to confirm that, because while I’m fairly certain I DID see something from the staff that confirmed that the Princess Twilight thing was the staff’s own idea, I can’t actually find it).

The problem is the writers refuse to develop it for two reasons.
 
the first is the obvious “We’re still reeling form all the idiots giving us crap over Twilicorn and EqG in general, so odds are they’re going to hate this guy no matter what, Let’s just make him as harmless as possible” bit.
 
The second from what I hear (and it pains me very much to say it) is that they hate his guts too because of how Hasbro forced them to make him. Granted, that sucks and I don’t blame them, but didn’t Lauren base this entire show and work in the demands of hasrbo based on the concept of “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”?
 
I may have a history of not putting up with shit from people giving McCarthy & co. crap for reason that ultimately boil down to “HOW DARE YOU NOT BE LAUREN!!!” but if this is true, goddamn did they drop the ball with him.

Is it weird that I’ve become bored enough with Twilight that I’ve begun to genuinely hope that Sunset starts to take some of the spotlight away from her? Twilight is so sanitized, so idealized. I’m tired of all the focus on her life. Whatever people say about all the filler episodes, the fact remains that those are little more than insignificant ripples compared to the big splashes Her Royal Bookiness gets to make these days.
