Read it. I agree with the last bit:
In other news: Pluto is a dark, frozen rock in the outer recesses of our solar system and does not care in the least how we classify it.

I do not mind the fact that we have 8 planets evenly split by the Asteroid Belt. I’ve though that Pluto was weird, not in the endearing way. More like a “something’s missing”.

Now, it’s among others like itself and even has a category named after it: Plutoids.

One thing we should all agree on however is that there are no longer 9 planets in the Sol system.

@kuney
No.

A popular vote by a viewing audience doesn’t mean a damn thing. Science is not a democracy; it’s not about a bunch of people of whatever qualifications taking a vote on reality.

This is wishful thinking on the part of people still butthurt about something so trivial.
Nukechaser

I think it’s a good thing. I mean, Eris would also be a planet since it’s bigger than Pluto, along with all of the other dwarf planets beyond Pluto, along with some of the larger asteroids like Ceres. It would make remembering all of them confusing.

This planet demotion has happened before. Case in point: Ceres used to be classified as one until what is now known as the Asteroid Belt is discovered. Pluto has more in common with the objects in the Kuiper Belt than everything else with the planet label. Plus, we’ve at least formally defined the criteria for being a planet is and Pluto falters at the third criteria.

This becomes funnier when you consider he might be wondering if she said “uranus” or “your anus,” because the implications are worlds apart.
