And yet the secondary main character that is responsible for both all their cutie marks and them all becoming friends is barely a footnote in this picture. She is just nerfed and written off whenever a finale comes…
 
…unless its a well written finale, and the main villain stays as far away from her until her plans are complete.

I think Trixie and Discord are at about the same level. Prior foe who reformed and sought friendship.
 
The most important part of reformation is those that we wronged being willing to welcome us into their circle. I think it’s more important for characters like Discord and Trixie to be close to Twilight than it is for the Mane 6.
 
If someone trying to reform is met with scorn and mistrust from both his former allies and his supposed new allies, they are more likely to fall back into their old ways.

So, I take it you consider “The Nightmare” to be an outside entity that fused with/possessed Luna, or you would have Discord in their twice, just like you have both NMM and Princess Luna in there?
