Well to be fair in the NMM fight Twilight had to exercise strategy because she was extremely weak in comparison, and didn’t know how to handle god-tier villains yet. Here both of them are essentially gods so they just try to unleash as much as possible, knowing that given enough power you might just blast your opponent into dust.

Well, Twilight’s blinded by rage and the threat of Equestria being beneath Tirek’s heel, and Tirek is at the edge of victory, and already has an ace. He wants to see just how much power he’s going to be getting.

Something I noticed:
 
During the entire fight, there are no good* shots of any physical attacks thrown/applied between the two combatants; even Tirek throwing Twilight here is accomplished through magic, rather than picking her up by hand. Tirek’s hitting Twilight with himself and the rock chunk was done at significant range from the camera, and the only contact between them is a brief after-hit effect of Twilight on Tirek’s shoulder.
 
It’s the censors at work, I know, but you have to give the art-team credit for making a good fight despite that.
 
The lack of tactics, though, is kind of sad; even Twilight versus Nightmare Moon had a clever strategy as part of it. This? Just roaring and blasting.

I was also genuinely expecting the entire mountaintop to explode and Twilight to keep going.

you know, with all that power that tirek’s got, there should be no more mountain after that throw

I dunno about you guys but the season finale battle was like a DBZ battle.
