Indeed, a “look into the future” episode would be perfect.
For example, with the Mane6 traveling to the future and find adult Spike who Rarity suddenly finds very attractive, yet Spike only regards her as one of his best friends who he’s missed for several millenia. It’d awesome to see the roles reversed, and since it would be a temporary thing (they all go back in the end), it wouldn’t affect anything.
Glad you agree, although a time skip episode would just spoil it, since it just makes everything inbetween seem like pointless filler. An alternative or bad future, or one long after the main characters could work, but time travel is a very hard thing to get right.

Glad to hear your expansion. It could also work for other pairs, like Flutts and Dash, due to their anxiety issues, or the Royal sisters, due to the heavy burden on their shoulders.
And if he sets his crush aside it will be easier for him to acknowledge her faults, namely that they both share a struggle of balancing the selfish and altruistic aspects of themselves. So I agree that they’re better as friends, and perhaps taking that a little bit further and give them a sort of sobriety partner dynamic
I love sparity my favorite ship, but I hear what you are saying. Yeah he is a bit young personally if I was a writer and going to do shipping I would do a whole time skip episode. Twilight misses up skips into the future. Kinda like a season two part episode.
Spike and Rarity are such good friends.
I know I may be kicking a hornets nest here, but I prefer Spike and rarity as friends rather than a couple in the show, mostly because Spike is still a young kid by their standards, probably around Sweetie Belles age. He has demonstrated that he is willing to let her go if it makes her happy, so he maybe getting over his crush.
I do like how the artist has also included Nightmare Rarity from the IDW comics as well, except that time it was forces beyond his control. This time, it was his own fault, but when he realized it went too far, he went out of his way to fix it, just as a responsible friend should.
