I don’t even see why it has to be excused with her having to adjust or relax. I’m perfectly fine with having her just not being a mature and considerate Princess, and doing things like making a bunch of ponies to serve as living pieces for a chess game (that she later abandons). It’s amusing, and that’s good enough for me.

Agreed. She’s just trying to adjust without having the huge amount of stress of nightmare moon on her shoulders. She faced her demons in comic #8, she had to admit to everyone defending her that Nightmare Moon wasn’t some outside force that possessed her, but a manifestation of her OWN darkness. For once she can be herself and not try to act perfect all the time for fear of being hated.
 
In all her show appearences, she’s trying to do what’s right, but she’s formal and tense as all hell. We never get to see any of her real personality. In fact her most outward, relatable show of emotions in the show are very similar to that of the comics.
 
Nothing wrong with trying to relax oneself after 1000 years on the moon and defeating the dark manifestation of your own mind. She’ll slip up a bunch, but that makes her infinitely more relatable.

I agree completely. I very much like the more selfish and inconsiderate version of Luna on display in the comics. It’s almost like, you know, Luna is the DARK princess in more ways than her fur color. I don’t really see how that has to be chalked up to “flanderization”; there are certainly elites who act like that (and much worse), and her behavior is understandable for someone who spent a one-thousand-year prison sentence on the moon for trying to destroy her own kingdom. That might just be her personality, and I for one love it.

Hi. OP here. Since there is so much debate over Luna’s character I thought I’ll join in too. I personally really love the dynamic take on Luna that the Price/Cook duo are doing. The micro starring her is probably the funnest and funniest comic in the MLP line-up. But I can also see how her portrayal is a bit on the “Howdy Neighborino” side of things.
 
But again, I don’t see much negativity towards her IDW personality because of how fun she is. Made all the better with how Andy Price draws her. I mean… just look at how ADORABLE she is when she’s yelling at Celestia! Girl is so adorbs when she mad.

Eh, true enough for now. But to be fair, there wasn’t much characterization to begin with, so it’s kinda hard not to flanderize.
 
I just have faith in the IDW staff to develop her further down the line. Right now they’re focusing on her Laughter aspect. I want them to work on her Loyalty and Honesty aspects.

Why is all the blame for Luna’s character getting placed on Andy Price, the artist, not Katie Cook, the writer?
 
Also, I’m probably going to get smacked for saying this but I actually find Luna’s character in the comics to be enjoyable to read.

Price’s Luna is basically a shallow exaggeration of her character in Luna Eclipsed. In LE, Luna was capable of telling when she was stepping over the line and wanted the other ponies to feel comfortable with her presence, whereas in her micro she basically steamrolls all over the castle and Canterlot and as many ponies as she finds along the way just to have her fun, Equestria be dammed.
 
So essentially, IDW!Luna is a flanderization of her.

Good thing Luna doesn’t know about Celestia fling with mirror world Big Mac (AKA never shut up Mac)  
and mirror world Flim Flam (AKA the saintly brothers)  
or mirror world Discord (AKA Law master)

I hate what Andy did to Luna.

…ok, I admit I was stretching it out with Luna’s appearances in other comics. Yeah, maybe here he was actually being concerned, but I (notice te “I” as in only me) can’t get over how annoying and spoiled she acted in previous issues.
