Really what I’m saying is that Shining Armor has way more going for him in the “backstory potential” department.
There’s already some aspects laid down that make us want to know more about it, but with Flash we don’t care as “automatically”, for lack of a better term, about his past.
Don’t see why, they’ve got the same basic stuff going for and against them. There’s nothing seriously unlikable about these two so far, but a little more insight about what they’re actually like would be nice.
Their “relationships”, in terms of who they happen to know, aren’t all that important. And as for respective lifestyle situations, that’s even less relevant to characterization. I’ve seen plenty of shows that were nonstop action and thrills that fell totally flat in the character department.
Shining’s boring, but I’d still rate him as more interesting than Flash is.
Like a 7 out of 10 on the boring scale compared to a 9 out of 10.
A boring dude in a fancy situation is still a boring dude. I think they could both use a little attention from the writers to show what they’re really like. I for one would be more than happy to see that happen.
It’s true that Shining’s not much for personality, but his functions & relationships were what was interesting about him.
Flash Sentry is like him, except without his fancy titles or relationships.
So, yes, I agree that Shining doesn’t have much personality; but he’s put in a position where he could provide more interesting interaction than Flash’s position.
In short: Shining & Flash are both bland in personality, but Shining has a more interesting situation put around him.
So far, you haven’t said a thing about him personally. You’re only talking about ponies he knows and his job. We can tell just as easily who Flash knows and some stuff he likes to do. Sorry, but I still don’t see any edge for SA.

Sunset wasn’t “evil for the sake of evil” at all, and I disagree with your premise that such a villain is “dumb” anyway. She was consumed by selfish ambition and a sense of her own merit to rule Equestria. Trixie had nothing except a vague and silly vendetta.
I never said that, he’s also got his tenure as captain of the royal guard to mine stories from &, if you want, his relationship with Cadance.
In what way? She didn’t have any reason to be evil other than being evil. That’s dumb. Trixie (and I don’t even care about Trixie) had more reasons to be a villain.
So the only interesting thing about Shining is the fact that Twilight is his sister? That’s truly pathetic.

Man, what’re you talking about, Sunset is awesome.
I sure do, I’m having trouble finding time to make my original comics, my fancomics, & finish that fanfic I started.
I write, but not fanfiction. I write fiction with my own characters. Though that’s also on hiatus because I have a lot of things going in my life I want to be doing. So little time, you know?
What about fanfic? Do find yourself unable to write as well?
I used to love DJ, but I found other characters fun too, yet they get very little love in the fandom world and that saddens me. I would give them love if I drew better… still working on that.
DJ PON3 & Octavia do have designs that some might find more interesting-looking than Flash’s, at the very least.
Spiffy shades & a bow tie.
BTW, Sunset Shimmer was a crap villain. Her reform may be a good thing, but I can’t judge that yet.
Shining Armor had his sibling relationship with Twilight to build off of. Flash Sentry didn’t even have that much going for him.
What interesting parts? There STILL isn’t anything particularly distinct about Shining. I don’t hate him for it though, that would just be dumb.
Likewise, the problem with Flash isn’t Flash. It’s the audience.
Eh~, the main problem with Flash Sentry is that he’s kind of boring. Sure there’s nothing particularly bad about him, but there’s not much particularly good about him either.
It doesn’t help that his character could be summed up as “Shining Armor, but with all the interesting parts removed”.
Ya, I was just pointing out there was more hate for the jokes then for Flash.
And that is also a vocal minority deal, like chickun. That one facebook page makes almost ALL of it.
Same here, I see more people hate the stupid jokes being forced because some think more hate him, the waifu thief jokes and the like and with the “Flash Sentry: Savior of the Universe” facebook page I think the joke need to die for good.
I think the flashhate was more of a vocal minority than anything else, and that most people were indifferent to the guy.
