You know what’s worse? Derpy is going to have to move to have the baby. At best, she has understanding parents who will move with her, or at least arrange fr her to move in with ground-based family. At worst, she’s going to be thrown out and left on her own.

There’s only two things I hate about high school settings. Bullies and Bitches. I mean yeah on the surface, a one off bully is tolerable because he never shows up again and nobody cares.
 
But Dumbbell(Billy) has had multiple appearances in this comic and he’s an utter ass in every panel. He’s a recurring character too, so if he has to act the way he does, I’d like to know why. If not a full explanation, then some kind of hint would do wonders.
 
Like this, most bullies in high school settings are tools. Cardboard cut-outs of the same tired shtick. I don’t know why but I just find the lack of characterization insulting. Especially for a recurring character.
 
The bully is one of my LEAST favorite stereotypes because they only have ONE purpose- to trigger the conflict. Lazy writing at its finest.

Well, I can’t say I found anywhere near as much as you did to get excited about. The romance was thoroughly UNromantic, and the story overall was about ten times as cliché as Equestria Girls ever hoped to be. Jerky jocks, pretty boys, popular girls, and geeky loser heroes, eternally battling it out for a few more meaningless bits to deposit in the bank of “coolness”. If one could call that sort of thing tired and worn out, then Mount Everest must also be a modest foothill.

I found that high school story damn fun, with the musical references and all, but it’s definitely uncanonical in my personal version of Equestria.

Eh, a high school so much like contemporary American high schools does feel kinda out of place to me, but not as much as ponies playing video games or being sex fiends.

Magic Kindergarten and the Magic Academy are specific for unicorns.
 
Flight School is specific for Pegasus. Yet Cheerilee’s class has all three pony kinds. A centralized education system would mean Rainbow Dash would be attending classes with unicorns and earth ponies, as it would be general education all of them need to learn.
 
But what exactly does a pony need to learn anyway? I don’t even believe Equestria has the kind of infrastructure that would require a public school as we know it. At best, every town or village has a school that teaches basic education. After that, further schooling is optional.
 
Eh, I dunno. It’s just head canon. They have colleges but most ponies make their way via apprenticeships such as Pinkie Pie working for the Cakes. But High School doesn’t exist.
 
This has nothing to do with the comic so I’ll shut up.

To be fair, our largest example is that of a school in a small country town. Small towns tend to have a different education approach than those of large cities or suburbs due in part to low population.
 
Twilight brought up magic kindergarten and she also attended a prestigious academy that appeared to go all the way up to college.
 
Rainbow Dash also mentioned Flight School, though she dropped out. Fluttersy attended as well, also likely a dropout.
 
So I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Equestria has a centralized education system in place, we just don’t see it in Ponyville

Well to be honest I also don’t like the high school setting. It doesn’t even feel like it makes sense in the show. There are institutions of learning,yeah, but there hasn’t been any sign of a centralized public education system unless you expect me to believe Cheerilee is going to teach her class all the way up to twelfth grade. And that seems ridiculous.
 
There’s basic learning for foals, after that it’s just discovering their place in life.

You know, now that you mention it, I hated that IDW Shining Armor and Cadence comic too. Something about the high school setting is jarringly unreal to me in the ponyverse, like a superfluous and unwelcome additive to a world which has reason to not have any such institution.
 
Perhaps that’s why you just pointed it out, come to think of it.
