But still, they didn’t make any attempt to trick anyone. They put out a bad product, and it was rejected. Pretty straightforward business. They shouldn’t have attempted to sell the bad cider of course, but if they hadn’t, the show would have taken a pretty dramatic turn, wouldn’t it?

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Return from the Darkness
…the Flim Flam Bros elixir works; however, the effects are temporary, and there are nasty side effects/withdrawals associated with it, especially for the elderly. In order to keep Granny Smith going, Applejack has to help these conmen sell their miracle elixir through their little song and dance in order to have said elixir for Granny Smith, but she comes to the realization that the half-truths she’s helping to perpetrate is actually harming others.

This is AJ’s key episode. I’ve got a good feeling.

They weren’t con men.
Their product (Super Speedy Cider Squeezie 6000) performed exactly as they had claimed it would. It made cider of decent quality in vast quantity.

I’d like to see a source on that, but even if she did say it, there’s just too much about the comics that is not only contradicts the story, but also the style of the show to consider them canonically part of the same general timeline. That’s while you’ll never see any sort reference made from the show to incidents in the comics.
