Aside from being Twi’s brother/son, I’d say being destined to become the most powerful (Discord aside) and loyal protector Equestria would ever know once he grows up, would definetly count as for why Spike is invited to hang around the bigshots. Yes, someday, he’ll be the only one strong enough to save Equestria (since Discord possibly won’t care).

Cadance: “And when he woke up in the morning she was still in his bed!”  
Shining: “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”  
Cadance: “And then she wanted to make him eggs!”  
Shining: “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”  
Cadance: “And then he said, oh I don’t have time. I’ve got a meeting at 10:30. And she said, I’ll drive you there.”
