Automail is still heavy, and with the type of combat that those two do, it would fuck them over pretty badily. The artist shows Mustang using alchemy with a horn, so why not?
 
Ed does not make a good pegasus. Short and simple. Either a earth or a unicorn would be a better choice.

Shouldn’t Ed not be able to fly with his automail? Clearly it would break if it was too light and he still does combat… I always saw him and Al as unicorns :/
