I thought they were talking about My Little Pony Tales, and the G3/3.5 cartoons.
I think Twilatron is saying ’ G1 & Friends show -> G1/‘G2’ Tales show -> g3(?) -> g4 ’? My take anyway :D
Oh come now, some of the ‘and friends’ episodes didn’t love up to the rest, but I don’t think they went that bad.
