I think there’s plenty to be confused by.
Someone close to you (be it a friend or lover) has willingly forsaken their own race to be closer to you, or to better understand things from your point of view, or whatever reason Dash did it. That’s a huge show of devotion. It would be touching, but depending on their past relationship, could be just as surprising or even intimidating.
And I really hope they show she’s an unrepentant asshole, and was such long before she came to Ponyville.
