I did state my opinion on what you said,stated what most liked most about the character,which is oh so surprisingly,the character himself.
 
Then I backtracked a bit on the “Chun li leg” thing after I searched a bit on the internet for professional runners
 
Really,the reason I don’t get the love/hate about the Knuckles redesign is why I’m doing this,really,it didn’t turn him into bishonen or “betray” what the character is about,which is strength over speed ,which is competing in that regard with Sonic.
 
I expected a more “meh” reaction from the fanbase…then again this fandom threw a hissy fit over Green eyes,so I shouldn’t have that high standarts :L

I just don’t see the changes being as Major or as unjustified as some people say.  
Really though,I doubt that anyone found the “size-to-strength” difference entertaining,they just said “K, he has Super Strength”.  
It was amusing at best,ignorable at worst
 
Knuckles at first was…well a guillable jerk with a reason for being aggressive,the protection of the Master Emerald.  
Later down the line he was a Hot-Blooded Knucklehead with a Hot Temper and a Heart of Gold,not a moron exactly but not of the smatest either
 
I guess what people liked was the personality.
 
Anyway,I looked at some professional Runner pics and from what I saw,the hips weren’t too disproportionate,I mean they didn’t pop out like Chun Li’s Hips and they aren’t nearly as thick:

See, the problem here is that you’re attempting to apply ‘sense’ to an anthromorphic blue hedgehog with swept back quills that wears red shoes, and his friend who is an anthromorphic red echidna with dreadlocks and boxing gloves that have massive spikes on the knuckles.
 
They already defy ‘sense’. One of the reasons I always found Knuckles to be genuinely entertaining was the fact that his strength was disproportionate to his size. He didn’t NEED to look like a generic meathead just because he was strong. Hell, you know who the Boom design Knuckles looks like? Storm the Albatross. Wearing a Knuckles head.
