Also, about that third one… when you say “not so good”, do mean that in terms of it being… riddled with plot holes? Or as in objectionable? or as in it being a sin against grammar, spelling, and punctuation?

You’re right that the mane 6 and spike did help keep the ponies happy and looked for the heart while Cadance was stuck on her throne. However  
Cadance at that moment is emotionally and physically drained. So she can’t search, hell she can barely keep up with Twi. Notice how she is a split second slower than Twilight:  
 
Prince Shining was busy being the lookout (with other guards probably) and you can’t get the crystal ponies to even look for the book for they’ll find out about the lost heart and be useless to power it even if it was found.  
In the end the gang wasn’t brought to the kingdom as saviors as much as helpers to repel Sombra.  
Spike who actually transported the heart and it was Cadance protected the ponies for who knows how long and acted kinda like a beacon of light that got the crystals to power the heart even after the Sombra’s wrath was one the cusp on happening.  
What I’m trying to say it that it was a team effort that saved the day, even with things that seem small like Shining choosing to stay with his wife instead of solving the problem himself does mean a lot to Cadance (and who know might have helped her hang on that much longer ;) )

Thing is, she was doing something when sitting on that throne, she was keeping Sombra back. Without her, everyone is enslaved. That’s something pretty important and is more than keeping the status quo. She likely couldn’t do any of that stuff without dropping the shield (or whatever you call it).

When I first saw Cadance sitting on the crystal throne (not hers yet), I got the impression of a princess who was keeping the status quo, yet wasn’t taking action to solve the problem.
 
It was Twilight and the others who went out, collected info, and conducted the search. Cadance did contribute at the end, yet why is she heralded by fans and ponies as the sole savior of the Empire?
 
Heck, the Crystal Heart Spell book said they erected a statue in her honor.
 
I’m not saying Cadance is a bad character or undeserving of praise, yet when I weigh what she’s done versus what’s been done for her, the idolization feels disproportionate.

Had to of least been like a day before the mane 6 arrived, due to how rough of a shape she was already in. And the mane 6’s actions likely took up most of a day. So, I’d wager she had that special anti-corruption shield up for like, a day and a half to two days, roughly speaking.

Can’t really say that Twilight solved the problem in the Crystal Empire. She found the crystal heart, but Cadance was the one stopping Sombra’s corruption for days on end and was the one to catch and activate the heart destroying him.

Unfortunately, I come down on the negative here.
 
Yes, Cadance has been endangered by threats, yet it’s Twilight who addresses and solves the problem. She’s been there for Cadance every time.
 
And though Cadance has undergone challenges, I don’t get the feeling she’s grown because of them.
 
I admire Twilight as a “princess” example because she’s the more proactive.

I’ve seen a few good ones talking about her adoptive parents, and another… not-so-good one talking about her actual parents. I can link the good ones if you want.

Dead? Not necessarily. Cadance’s adoptive parents found her abandoned in a forest as a foal, with no mention of her real parents. For all we know, her real parents may still be alive.
 
…Has anyone written a fanfic about Cadance’s real parents? Because I suddenly want to read one.
