Ever since “Secret of My Excess”, Spike has known what it’s like to be an adult dragon. He knows that sooner or later, every pony in Equestria will have to cower before him, including any stallions whom Rarity might have a passing fancy for. The little guy has more self-confidence than you’re giving him credit for.

We can only hope, even though chances are they’ll just ignore him the entire epsiode.
We can just hope that the writers are planning something good for him in this episode, that will round out his crush, and help people better understand how he acts about his crush.
Yes you’re on to something. I just find it ironic that the majority of us would think that Spike would be the depressed obsessive individual when Rarity is the one having the personal dedicated shrine with the hair piece and everything.
Yes misjudged is a perfect term. It shows that the writers have done a terrible job developing his character.
Keep in mind that when Rarity talked about meeting Celestia’s nephew, and fall in love with him at the Gala, Spike didn’t really seem to object to this.
Perhaps he has a sort of “I want my beloved to be happy” sort of attitude. While he has refused to wash his cheek once rarity kissed it, that’s the most he’s done. While she has a piece of Trenderhoof’s hair, and tons of posters.
Perhaps people have mistjudged the poor little guy.
It’s a problem when the majority of us would think that Spike would be a wreck. He hasn’t done anything obsessive over Rarity besides doing the things he already does for Twilight, and yet it’s Rarity who has the 2nd pipe dream which is going to get crushed eventually (Shrine and everything). Either the writers are surprising us, or they just don’t give a damn or don’t know what to do with Spike.
I like how the other 4 looks all worried while Twi looks like “huh, why isn’t Spike worried/broken down/etc?” while she looks directly at Spike, the one who should feel the most crushed at Rare’s obvious crush on Trenderhoof.

That’s the guy all the haters were putting their hopes on to (and I quote) “sink Sparity”?
God, I’d love to see their reactions to this.
I expected better like extremely photogenic guy better.
