Animation oversight?
Yeah, it’s really intended for show rather than as an exact layout of the land. In the poster version, it even says “distance not to scale” at the bottom.
I’m pretty sure Trottingham and Hoofington are cities in Equestria but your right about the rest,and now that I have accepted THIS map I theorize that this is a gross oversimplification of the geography of the land and not to scale and lacks provincial boundaries and many landmarks(like a text book map page for kids)as such the geography and borders of Equestria and the surrounding nations are still ripe to be debated and theorized on.
Well, only Equestria and the Crystal Empire have so far been mapped. The other places such as Saddle Arabia, Griffon Kingdom, Trottingham, and Hoofington have only been mentioned, not mapped. What’s south of Equestria? What’s north of the Crystal Empire? And not to mention what’s in the overseas territories?
Oh well…well there is nothing wrong with this map ,its a very nice map after all..I just… you know a magical world with so many races and opportunity for mythological inserts…I wouldn’t want to infringe on cannon…(sigh)
Looks like the only place left is the Crystal Empire.

Sorry to crush your hopes but they used the same map for the travel scene in Daring Don’t. So it’s probably canon.
