It was a daring use of metagoofiness. By subverting the expectations of silliness, she was actually generating greater overall absurdity in the eyes of those experienced with goof-offs.
Of course, using such high-level techniques for somepony like Rainbow Dash is a case of casting pearls before swine. Pinkie, however, was bringing her A game, even if it would play poorly to an inexperienced judge.
I know. She was too thematically consistent. Did she purposely walk in with a disadvantage? Was that the limit of her goofiness? Did she underestimate her opponent?
Or was she merely that confident that she could win?
