I only poke fun at OCs in a joking manner unless of course the creator is one to be rude to constructive criticizers or has a haughty “holier than thou” attitude. Then I will sometimes tear their OC apart, but never the person themselves.

Eh, the problem isn’t so much red and black, or (from my position) even alicorn, so much as the positively absurd number of red n’ black, oversaturated alicorn OCs, who all tend to look exactly alike. I actually saw a unicorn OC once, who was a dull red with off-black accents; she didn’t look half-bad, because the design was not overstated.
 
Put extra demonic horns, half-changeling features, and zebra stripes for emphasis and play this perfectly seriously- that kind of macaroni wardrobe earns mockery in any sphere, not just among fans of MLP.

Which, of course, justifies insulting, mocking, and demeaning anyone who uses red or black in their pony or who has an alicorn OC, and basically trying to drive them out of the fandom for their crime against bronydom.

My Little Ponies are pastel. That is the way it has always been. Making eye-burningly dark or bright ponies goes against what exists in the show.  
Plus alicorns are suppose to be a rare, respectable, and deity-like race. Not everypony and their dog is suppose to be an alicorn.

Actually, in some fine art circles, the use of black is highly discouraged, especially in painting.
 
The color black tends to mix into colors and turn everything into a mess.
 
In short: if you are tempted to use black, use a dark grey or purple instead.

Black doesn’t even go with ponies, period. Neither does bright red. You have to use pastel colors. Look at Thunderlane, he’s not pure black, which is why he doesn’t look awful.
