Actually the first four of them are specifically “how to be a good Jew”: one G-d, no idols, don’t say the name of G-d, keep the Sabbath. It’s the rest of them that any idiot knows are ethical (respect your parents, don’t kill, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t covet).
 
People who claim the Ten Commandments are a secular universal code of ethics are either being extremely sloppy, or know them well enough to be lying about it, usually for the purpose of having them taught in schools or displayed on public property.
