It is, it was a “Zapper Series” game like “Duck Hunt.”
In fact, according to the DVD commentary to BttF2, they actually had to mock-up an arcade cabinet for the game for the movie.

Must add that part still makes me laugh, “You have to use your hands? That’s like a babies toy!” (Especially, hilarious/ironic considering how many kids nowadays use iPads, and such to play games. So it looks like that’s coming true.)

That line always makes me laugh, epspecially considering the kind of games, and young gamers we have today.

Even though BttF part 2 exaggerated the future a bit (2015, which is coming close, but remember this movie came out in 1989) they did accurately predict a few things, like 3D movies, (“The shark still looks fake” hilariously, that’s how some feel about some modern 3D/CGI-effects) 1980s nostalgia with the ‘80s cafe’, (With all the ‘80s-ish stuff in it from the Max Headroom-ish Michael Jackson, to the Nintendo arcade game) and the Japanese/tech’ influence on American pop-culture.

They even predicted split-screen widescreen TVs, and touch-screens/pads in that movie. Though, we don’t use them for opening doors… (yet…)

Still, where are our self-drying clothes, hovercars, and those awesome Pepsi cans? :P
