Agreed, but I’d say it’s physical prowess rather than masculinity.
Because in MMC, nopony was really “themselves” for the whole first half of the episode.

This is Pinkie Pie we’re talking about. She is strong when she feels like being strong.
She’s so hyperactive, she burns away everything in her body to fuel her cartoon antics. She’s literally just skin, bones, and whatever unholy magic is gluing her together.

For a unicorn, Rarity is a very “physical” girl. Recall the spa scene in “Green Isn’t Your Color”–Fluttershy only put up with a small amount of physical contact, but Rarity was letting herself practically get mauled by the spa ponies. She likes to play rough.
