To be fair, that would be consistent with the way her character is portrayed in Season 1: terrified by fears in her imagination (falling leaves, being left alone, the threat of a dragon, etc.) But often the bravest of the group when facing real danger or visibly realized fears (the manticore, cockatrice, facing down a real dragon, etc.) Not a perfect explanation, there are still the incidents of her quailing from Nightmare Moon and the spooky trees in the pilot, but she did (arguably) get some reinforcement in later episodes.
