It’s one thing to say that Luna has a lot to catch up on, it’s another to say that she’s inferior. As equals I like them both. As greater and lesser I end up disliking Luna for being weak, Celestia for being arrogant, or both.

@supermanhulkjesus
That means Luna wants to be as loved and admired as her sister, but she doesn’t want to do as much work.

Doing a bad job at something brings no admiration.

Doing different work is not the same as doing less work, either. I’ve been under the impression that Luna started patrolling dreams because of an attempt to find a way to help ponies that she was actually good at.

Remember, she wanted to go up north and deal with Sombra herself. She may not be much for paperwork, but that doesn’t make her useless or lazy.

Only if you assume Celestia hasn’t changed at all in the last thousand years.

What Celestia was like a thousand years ago is unknown, true, but not directly relevant to the situation at hand. While Luna hasn’t had the opportunity to change over the past thousand years, Celestia has grown into a capable politician, assuming that she wasn’t like that to begin with.

Luna, from her own perspective, has only had a short amount of time to change from the resentful person that she was when she became Nightmare Moon. That’s the important part.

I’m not saying it’s an invalid interpretation of the characters, I’m just saying I’d rather not hate both of them.

While Celestia overruling Luna was kinda harsh, I wouldn’t think of it as being something worth hating her over.

@Sjogre
“It actually does makes sense, when you get down to it, and without Celestia being a tyrant. Celestia has a thousand years more experience ruling the ponies, and unlike Luna, her knowledge isn’t out of date. She’d be taking the lead just because she’s more familiar with the current situation.”

I’m fine with Luna still adjusting to modern society.

“Now, how much Luna wants to handle the bureaucracy of modern Equestria is another question. Kneejerk response is that she doesn’t care for all the paperwork and is happy to hand it off to Celestia.”

That means Luna wants to be as loved and admired as her sister, but she doesn’t want to do as much work.

“There’s also no getting around the fact that Celestia comes across as having always been the more level-headed of the two, the more responsible one, while Luna seems to be an impulsive hothead.”

Only if you assume Celestia hasn’t changed at all in the last thousand years.

“The incident in Crystal Empire was worth noting because it showed that Celestia, while she listens to others, has the final say.”

So when ever they disagree Luna’s side of the argument is disregarded in favor of Celestia’s.

I’m not saying it’s an invalid interpretation of the characters, I’m just saying I’d rather not hate both of them.

While when Luna started patrolling dreams is up for debate, which of them is the junior partner is not.

Check the beginning of Crystal Empire again. Luna brings up valid concerns about using the Empire as a test for Twilight, which Celestia summarily ignores.

I know it’s just speculation but I certainly hope this doesn’t happen. Everfree has too much potential to be just be suddenly deforested so Pretty Princess Twilight can build her Pretty Princess Palace and her Pretty Princess Kingdom over its ashes.
Plus, wouldn’t that displace or kill the thousands of animals who live there? I can’t imagine Fluttershy would be cool with that. And what about poor Zecora? That’s like if someone burned down the entire Amazon rainforest to the ground overnight and kicked out all its inhabitants, human and otherwise.

I totally did not mean to imply that (‘cause there are bat-fans here probably who’ll defend the title to death, just like there are people trying to justify the “princess” title here too) but I’k glad we agree. :D
He does look up stuff on a magical computer database sometimes, I guess that must count against his sleuthing quota.

Where is this info coming from? I mean this guy could just be pulling this out of nowhere.

I’ll be blunt. Reading just this post, this sounds like a truly awful idea. It dispels a lot of interesting themes and new in-universe material the show could have explored. Remember that Zecora and most likely other races hail from the Everfree, too. This also could bring in a lot of long-standing worries about Twilicorn in the first place.

What makes Everfree Everfree is not the lurking evil but that it is the only region in Equestria that it is not controlled by ponies. Zecora lives there, and other sapient races likely do, too. Also, is Everfree really spreading? I know AJ’s farm is next to it, but as I recall, even that’s fanon.

If they it over, it means ponies now control every aspect of the land they inhabit. Gone is the past mystery that lurked there, and now the ponies start to look like a threat to the rest of the world, at least outside whatever context can justify it. I mean if they go somewhere with it, it could really be interesting.

But I don’t think this is real. I mean do kids not like forests at all anymore? Surely there are good toy ideas lurking in the Everfree setting.

>Unless the story reveals something very interesting, the ponies don’t have any need or desire to destroy the entire Everfree, they just want get it to stop spreading.
This is what I’m hoping for. The Everfree Forest is a really interesting place, it would be a shame for it to be gone.

Zecora moves on to the next forest of death, after leaving her forwarding address with the ponies.

Debates about whether the Everfree is necessary to anything aside, I don’t think that I would call it evil. At worst, it’s just been wild.

But that’s even worse. Like painting a cat like a tiger, you are grabbing something cool, copting something that looks like it but isn’t, then claiming it is. That’s delusional and very, very, very lame.
Background Pony #38A6
@Sjogre
And Zecora? Does her tree survive? Will they be left with a huge open field with a single tree just sitting in the middle? Also, some of the ingredients for her potions are from the forest, so if they disappear, she could be out of a job.

It’s an interesting idea for the forest itself to be defeated, but its disappearance seems like it would cause a few problems too. The whole place seems like a necessary evil.

It was like saying:
“Congratulations! You now own the title of “the world’ greatest detective”. Not that you did any detective work before, but you have proven that you are worthy of it. You will not, however, be doing any detective work now either. That will be taken care of by other people who we’ve already been using to take care of it before you came along. In fact, you will be doing the exact same job you had been doing before. But you still get the title. Also, you will be allowed to attend social events where you’ll get praise for being the world’s greatest detective.”

They don’t show Batman doing much detective work do they. At least not in the cartoons or games ( There’s a supposedly bit more in Origins).

@Background Pony
The timberwolves seemed to be part of the forest, so if it goes, they go with it. Dragons live wherever they want, so the greed adult will probably stay right where he is, and to hell with anyone that tries to get him to move.

@Vree
Given that Twilight has always been Celestia’s agent, she’s always been doing enough work to justify the title. Heck, Twilight was receiving the obeisance of a bunch of ponies during the Grand Galloping Gala, so she’s always been at or near the top of the political food chain in Equestria.

When you get down to it, Twilight becoming a princess just can’t change her situation much, not unless it actually drops her status.
Background Pony #38A6
@PonyPon
That’s probably not going to go down well.
“Welp, looks like I’m out of a home…”
“Oh, look, just outside where the everfree forest used to be, a little village. I guess I’ll just move in there.”

Regardless, they have a realm and some work to do to justify the title.
The writing is far from consistent pr perfect, but trying to bring back the word “princess” to actually have a meaning in s4 from the empty “Chosen One/lil girl fantasy” it’s been molded into during s3 is a good step.

(Again, the fact that Cadance was originally a “niece” to royalty before they retconned that in the Heart Spell book is proof that the whole shift in perception took place during the writing of s3.)
