Wow, you’re really this anally devastated because a few people don’t find animu humor to be “funny”.
Wow.
In this case, it’s more that Pinkie finds Dash’s dejection to be a turn-on.
@FanOfMostEverything
So possible mental problems clearly relating to abandonment issues manifesting as sadistic rape and murder is at least vaguely ‘plausible’ for you, but it manifesting as milder manipulative behavior aimed at causing suffering, presumably at least partly or even primarily to drive the victim to seek her out for comfort is totally irrational.
I see some holes in this reasoning…
It’s not very hard for me at all, nor do I consider laughing at someone being kind of a dick particularly “Japanese” humor. The simple fact is finding a laugh in watching other people act like tools as long as we’re not the target is pretty damn universal. See every sitcom neighbor in the universe for example.
Not being able to get that is into willful ignorance territory for me.
Huh. Then I guess it just got a stranglehold on the fan zeitgeist.
Yeah…and I’m PRETTY sure the writers don’t read fanfiction.
Wasn’t Cupcakes written prior to Party of One?
We’ve seen Pinkie experience a delusional psychotic episode, which could theoretically be extrapolated into a homicidal alternate personality. It’s a tenuous connection, but it’s there.
This, on the other hand, lacks even that flimsy justification. Pinkie pranks ponies, yes, but she always makes sure any distress is momentary and no feelings are hurt. Furthermore, she literally lives to make others happy, to the extent that she has sung a song about it. Seeing her wallow in another’s misery while remaining sane does not compute.
The problem is not as much Pinkie being “out of character” as it is the Japanese humor that makes little sense to western audiences. It’s harder for us to understand why anyone would be literally drooling over causing someone else’s sadness, especially when they’re a close friend.
Yeah, actually, that IS a super bizarre concept. Perhaps it’s a “thing” in Japan, but pretty much everywhere else, it’s just goddamn creepy.
So, instead of “every pony in this town is CRAZY!”, it’s a case of “every pony in this town is A PERVERT!” ?
Even so, I doubt that this would get Pinkie Pie going (though it might work for RD). And, aside from that, Pinkie Pie canonically loves reading, so the premise kind of falls flat.
(Besides, if you read this guys’ comics you’d know that “they are all perverts” is basically always the punchline. That’s Japan for you!)
Crap, you’re right. The problem was that it never occurred to me until now that Rainbow Dash was the one saying that line. I thought that was something written on the wall by Twilight inviting people to borrow those books, and ended up overlooking the て to make it work. I’ll make up a correction.
And having foot fetishes is completely normal.
((P.S. I wasn’t pointing fingers))
