I know, but Samurai aired on a commercial network, meaning that any unofficial ban on a TVNZ network would not apply to them.
This has happened before BTW, with both South Park and Popetown being examples of shows that (in your words) were unofficially banned on the TVNZ network, but aired on the Canwest network.
All-in-all, the most likely reason that Power Rangers didn’t come back on air sooner is that there just was a lack of interest on the network’s part, given that at the time, Nickelodeon was in their hayday with shows like Rockos Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, et cetera, thus them having enough shows to fill out their weekday afternoon broadcasting schedules.
Well the ban(and I do think it was unofficial on) was lifted, for what I have seen it was some time before Samurai started airing.
Ok, I will concede the point that it may have been an unofficial ban, if only provisionally (I’ll send an email to them when I get the chance to see what was the reason for them not deciding to air it again).
I’m strongly anti-censorship, thus I follow censorship trends very closely over here, which is why I tend to get annoyed when people say that something is/was “banned” here…which is both irrational and ironic, because I know for a fact that unless something is child pornography, you can get it into the country without issue, and the police wont give two shits about it (underfunding of our prison system means that you have to commit what most people consider a “real” crime before going there).
They only have to list official bans.
Uh, have you even read New Zealand law in that regard? For something to be “banned” over here, the OFLC needs to give it a refused classification. I can find nothing in either the OFLC or the BSA databases referencing a “ban”, hence Power Rangers was never banned here.
So I call bullshit on you calling bullshit.
Banned from TV isn’t the same as banned all together, if you think that then you are stupid.
Bullshit! It has been noted of complaints against the show, but it was found to not be in breach of any broadcasting standards at the time (Although it led to a clarification of standards when it came to violence). Besides, I can get in my car right now, drive down to The Warehouse, and Buy the boxset of every Power Rangers season released to date! You know what rating they’ve got on the box? PG
It was never banned here. It just wasn’t on television since TVNZ never decided to air it again. You could always find VHS and DVD copies forever here, all rated by the OFLC (making them legel to sell here).
Here here.
Also it’s kind of half wrong, it was pulled off voluntarily yes but then they made the decision to ban it, so it was banned.
So he was wrong about it getting banned, so what, no reason to call him that and I’m sure people have corrected him about it.
Oh wow, they got uppity over Power Rangers’ nearly bloodless fighting?
People today are too squeamish.
A franchise that a certain fuckshit reviewer on TGWTG should correct himself when he says that it was banned from airing in NZ.
I know for a fact that it wasn’t banned! TVNZ voluntarily took it off the air due to complaints from wowser parents.
@Techzom
@soundtea
Tyrannosaurus coin and the frame around her isn’t gold so NOPE!
And then come back in an incarnation of the franchise 10 years down the line.
LOL, I was going to say that.
She is the green ranger! And then she’ll be the white ranger and the new leader, and she’ll appear in a lot of sequels.
